Guest Post: Trapped in the Empire

“If you had to be trapped inside a movie for five days, what movie would you pick?”

I thought this would be a PERFECT post for The Mister to handle…

This question is almost as hard to answer as the question of what super power I would choose.  I mean, there are so many great movies and franchises to choose from: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Princess Bride, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, The Goonies, The Harry Potter series, just about any superhero movie made in the last 10 years, and, of course, the movie franchise I have to go with, Star Wars.

I’d be happy to be trapped in any one of the Classic Trilogy movies, but since I have to choose one, I’d go with the Empire Strikes Back.  Arguably one of THE best “sequels” ever created, it totally sets up the final confrontation between father and son, Darth Vader (Anakin Skywalker) and Luke Skywalker.  Empire Strikes back has it all, romance, adventure, excitement…a Jedi may crave not these things, but the rest of us have been eating it up since the first “A long, long time ago, in a galaxy far away,” was read on the silver screen back in 1977 (which is also the best year ever, in my opinion).

I’ve always wanted to be a Jedi.  Even today, when I think of wearing hoodies, I imagine myself wearing the modern day wardrobe of a Jedi Knight.  It’s just so cool!  Flying through the galaxy in an X-wing, twin foils open in the signature X configuration, or jumping to Light Speed in the Millennium Falcon, yes, please.  Not to mention tapping into the all-encompassing power of the Force.  I know we’ve made some pretty great technological advances with the internet, instant messaging and Face-Time, but that doesn’t come close to the ability to “sense” the presence and emotions of the people around you.  Granted, that won’t always come in handy, depending on who’s around you and what they’re feeling, but that’s what training is for.  Come on, people.  You don’t get to be known as Defenders of Justice in the Galactic Republic by accident.

May the Force be with you!
