Thanksgiving is on its way and this year I am honored to be able to host my family in my new home! It’s exciting and scary all at the same time. I feel like a grown-up LOL!
For as long as I can remember my aunt and uncle have hosted Thanksgiving at their home and made the turkey as well. Everyone in the family is assigned something to bring and for me, it was always dessert. This year, the mister and I are making the turkey too. We’ve made our own turkey for the past five years so we have practice but we are still gonna do a practice run. That means I get to eat some turkey in a couple of days! I’m super excited.
We brine our turkey and have been brining it for the past three years, ever since we saw the Alton Brown Thanksgiving special. My mister got all excited about the science of brining and he hasn’t allowed me to turn back.
Today, I bought our almost 22 pound turkey. I couldn’t find anything bigger than that. We are also trying to make sure that we will be able to fit a big turkey in our double oven range.
What do you think? Do you think a 22pound gobble gobble will fit in there? Both ovens are the exact same size. I’m praying that this bird fits! Or we could be in trouble!
Who does the cooking for your Thanksgiving dinner?
Day 3- Nablopomo 2013
Hosting, how fun! The latest issue of Cook’s Illustrated had a thing on making the turkey, but you deconstructed it beforehand, brined the breast and then roasted all of the parts. That’d be one way to make sure a 22-pounder fits!
Ooh, I’ll have to check that out. Thanks Beth! 🙂
