Homemade Vanilla Extract

Try it Out Thursday
Try It Out Thursday is dedicated to recipes or ideas that I find on Pinterest or receive in my e-mail. I tend to “pin” and save a lot of recipes & craft ideas and never try them so I decided that this will help me wade through the many pins and e-mails that I have.

I decided to venture into making my own vanilla extract a little over two months ago when I came across this pin from Sugar and Snapshots.

Two months later, I have a very fragrant and wonderful bottle of homemade vanilla extract to use in my baking adventures.

It was an adventure to make it too! If you’ve read any of my other blog entries, you know that I have 10 years of sobriety under my belt from drugs and alcohol. Now, mind you, I don’t have any desire to DRINK alcohol but I had to buy a bottle of vodka to make this stuff. It was really weird to walk into a liquor store and buy this. I DID NOT go alone and I called my accountability partner before I even walked into the store. It was so weird that I will probably never do it again. It felt so wrong FOR ME personally.

Anyway, I just thought that I would share that. Moving on…

I used this vanilla extract in an experimental peach cobbler that I made on Father’s day. It smelled amazing while I was cooking up the peaches!

The reason that I even attempted to make the extract was because I want to make some to give as gifts this coming holiday season.

My husband and I will soon be closing on our new house and I am gonna have to get creative with Christmas gifts this year. This recipe makes it into the “goodies to make for those I love”  list.

Reminder!

My Big Summer Giveaway is happening as we speak. You still have a little over two weeks to enter to win a Kitchen Aid Ice Cream Maker Attachment. Please tell everyone you know that has a Kitchen Aid Mixer to enter.
