Try it Out Thursday

Try It Out Thursday is dedicated to recipes, products or ideas that I find on Pinterest or receive in my e-mail. I tend to “pin” and save a lot of recipes and craft ideas and never try them so I decided that this will help me wade through the many pins and e-mails that I have.

One of the reasons that I bought my VitaMix was because I wanted to make smoothies that were smooth, creamy and delicious! When I got my VItaMix last year I was set on trying to make different kinds of smoothies but I got stuck on strawberries and bananas.

I finally decided to try something a little different. While at COSTCO last week, I picked up a really big bag of organic kale and thought, “I should attempt to make a green smoothie” and that is what I have done this week for “Try It Out Thursday”

I used a recipe from CrossFit Fenrir. It’s a Paleo Kale & Banana Smoothie. The only change I made when I made this the first time was that I added some ground cinnamon.

As I was putting everything in the blender I got a little anxious about what this smoothie would taste like.  I’ve heard my friends talk about how good they taste and how they are good for you but I’m one of those people who has to experience it to believe it.

Well, it was success for my taste buds! I love this smoothie and I will continue to make it and add it to the list of smoothies that I make at home.

The one thing that I did notice is that kale has a very strong, distinct flavor. The second time I made this smoothie, I did 1 cup spinach and 1 cup kale. A good friend of mine told me that spinach would mellow out the taste of the kale. I took her advice and was glad that I did.

So, the moral of the story is don’t be afraid to try a new smoothie.
