Foodie Penpal October 2012

I got to go on a vacation/anniversary trip this month and it was so wonderful to actually get away. My hubby and I went to San Antonio, Texas (where we honeymooned) for 4 nights and 5 days. We visited with my cousin Audrey at her new home and really relaxed. We decided not to do the touristy thing and just stay in the vicinity of where my cousin lives. A few weeks before I told my cousin that we wanted to eat at some good, hole in the wall joints and she and her hubby did good in suggesting an Italian one named Caperrelli’s and a Mexican taco place called Taqueria Datapoint. Both places were WINNERS in my book!

We also got to go to Fredricksburg, Texas. I had never been there. It was a rainy gloomy day so we didn’t stay all day but I got to bring home some preserves and jams and have some AMAZING Coconut Supreme Pie at Tootie’s Pie Co. It was the BEST pie I have had in a very long time. The service was impeccable as well!

Oh, and did I mention that I got to GO SHOPPING! It was awesome to be able to update my closet. Of course, now I have to clean my closet out of the things I don’t wear anymore. That will happen very soon because our closet is overflowing with things that no longer get worn.

When I arrived home I had a few packages and one of them was my foodie penpal package from Maria at Lil Mys Ninja! Foodie Penpal day has become one of my favorite days. I really LOVE getting packages from other foodies around the country. Here is what my package contained.

I loved everything in my box but I would have to say that the Strawberry Jam with no added sugar was my favorite! I am a lover of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches! I guess that’s why I married the best peanut and jelly sandwich maker in the entire world, my hubby!

Maria’s Pomeranian, Raven, also got in on the deal and sent my Leila girl some cookies. Foodie Penpal’s isn’t just for people anymore, it’s for our furry babies too! Thank you Raven! Leila loves the cookies. Here she is waiting for me to give her permission to eat it. She is so funny!

If you want to see what I sent my foodie Penpal this month go HERE!

If you are interested in becoming an foodie penpal, here is some information. You can sign up ——>;; HERE!

Here’s a detailed explanation of the program:

-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treats! The spending limit is $15. The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
– Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents. Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!

***If you’re in the UK, please contact Carol Anne from This Is Rock Salt at rocksalt@thisisrocksalt.com to get involved!
